The Startup Grind, “a global startup community designed to educate, inspire, and connect entrepreneurs”, is finally launching a chapter in Atlanta and the timing couldn’t be more perfect.  Atlanta will be joining up with the Startup Grind’s 40,000 entrepreneurs in over 50 cities and 20 different countries to host interviews with successful local founders, innovators, educators and investors.  With 18 Atlanta companies on Inc. magazine’s list of the 500 fastest growing companies of 2013 it’s easy to see that Atlanta is beginning to attract new talent.  Serial entrepreneur David Cummings, who just recently sold his bootstrapped company Pardot for $100 million, reinvested millions back into the city to build the Atlanta Tech Village.  The Atlanta Tech Village offers a much needed 103,000 square feet building in the heart of Atlanta for entrepreneurs to work together as a community and promote inspiration while helping them make connections with investors.  It is the largest co-working environment for tech startups in the Southeast and the first of its kind in Atlanta.  Currently Atlanta ranks 12th in the nation for number of tech startups but this push to bring Atlanta into the top five makes this an exciting time to bring your startup here.  Companies ranging from Ben Chestnut’s Mailchimp to Michael Tavani’s Scoutmob are leading the way on innovation and they want to prove that you don’t have to be in Silicon Valley to do it.  So this brings up one of the most common questions, what does the Atlanta startup community need most? The answer is a combination of more investors backing risky startups, more modern entrepreneurship training programs, and most importantly more tech startup events like the Startup Grind.  The Startup Grind’s first event will be on October 9th from 6 to 9 pm at the Atlanta Tech Village, in the heart of Buckhead.  Our first event will be featuring Co-founder of Scoutmob, Michael Tavani, with catered food and drinks from Farm burger and Sweetwater.  Please follow the twitter accounts @oregonkinfolk and @startupgrind for future updates on upcoming events and I look forward to meeting everyone at our next Startup Grind event.
