Celebrating 105 Startup Grind Writers

The world’s most prolific entrepreneurs are men and women with incredible curiosity.

Before founding Twitter, Jack Dorsey devoured choppy new tech products - like SMS - adding “it’s rough around the edges - I love stuff like that.” It’s a curiosity to build, suggest Dorsey.

Ask Richard Branson what makes him a successful entrepreneur and he’ll lead with curiosity, too. “I might be one of the most curious entrepreneurs alive today,” says Branson. “Somebody tells me that 80% of the species in the ocean have not been discovered, so I think maybe we should try to build a submarine to go down to the bottom of the oceans and explore them.” His curiosity leads him to explore - the world of music, the deep seas, and now deep space.

Now think about Warren Buffet, the famous investor whose success has made him the “Oracle of Omaha.” How does Buffet spend his curiosity? On learning, he says "I just sit in my office and read all day." He estimates that he spends 80 percent of his working day reading and thinking.

By our count, entrepreneurs should be reading almost as much. That’s why we’re proud to announce the Startup Grind blog is becoming a home for entrepreneurs, investors, and community builders looking to get smarter with the success of our first major milestone:

Since August 1st, Startup Grind now features thoughts on entrepreneurship, founder life, global technology and economic trends, and investment strategy from over 105 contributing writers. Read on to meet them, and join us to hit 200 in by September.

So Who Are Our Writers?

They’re entrepreneurs from our community like Steve Dean, whose startup Jobsuitors helps companies like Tesla hire. Steve’s write up of the Secret Tools of Superconnectors has helped thousands of visitors improve their closeness with their network, and given them strategies for growing it more quickly and meaningfully.

They’re consultants helping Startup Grind’s community of startups iterate, build, grow, and mature more quickly, like PR specialist David Wamsley of Rosebud Communication. His multi-part series of pitching journalists effectively has brought in hundreds of eager new readers, and helps his agency build credibility and client leads.

They’re Startup Grind directors from all around the world, like Ider-Od Bat-Erdene. Thought Ider-od writes from Mongolia, his advice on optimizing your B2B sales strategy has been another of our most popular posts last month, attracting readers far beyond his local community - and giving his BPO business a new audience.

They’re thought leaders and authors like Laura Klein, the celebrated user experience blogger whose new book UX for Lean Startups has made a big splash. Posting on Startup Grind allows Laura to reach a whole new audience, while our readers can learn from her brilliant post on Why Your Visitors Don’t Convert.

They’re technologists and hackers who are helping CEOs understand their CTOs, and making us all build better products by understanding the underlying technology. Our best piece on this lately: Mike Ihbe’s post on the Four Things Your Developer Wants You to Know. My conversations with my technical staff won’t be the same again.

Some are already successful journalists like John RamptonDrew Hendricks, and John Boitnott who write for outlets like Forbes, Inc, The Huffington Post, and Venturebeat. Drew’s post on the top places to work remotely has rallied the aspiring digital nomads to Startup Grind, while Rampton's writing on startup hiring has helped domestic teams grow stronger. Boitnott's piece on financial planning for startups has nomads and growing companies alike save hundreds of hours on their accounting.

Many more, however, are new writers who have finally found a platform for their ideas. Olga Mack, a lawyer newly moonlighting as a writer, has crafted some of the best content that the Startup Grind site has seen - like this post about Chris Sacca’s biggest failures.

These could be your stories, too. Our contributors are creating value for a huge audience of over a quarter million entrepreneurs, improving their standing in the world of business and journalism, and driving new leads and clients to their startups or services.
