Simon is one of the founders and managing directors of envelio, which is a spin-off from RWTH Aachen University and offers a smart grid software platform for network operators based on innovative optimization and machine learning algorithms. Before founding envelio, Simon earned his doctorate from RWTH Aachen, where he also headed the Distributed Energy Systems research group.

The energy transition is progressing. In order for our climate protection goals to be achieved, many millions of renewable generation plants and new loads, such as Charging points for electric cars into which energy networks are integrated. This poses major challenges for network operators.Founded in April 2017, envelio helps to solve the problem. For this purpose, the latest research findings from energy system research at RWTH Aachen University are put into practice by envelio. envelio has already received several awards, including with the main prize in the start-up competition for digital innovations and 3rd place in the Germany-wide BMWi competition "Digital Startup of the Year 2018". envelio has successfully completed a series A financing round with the venture capital company eCAPITAL. The existing shareholders Demeter and High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) are also joining this series A financing round with significant additional investments. The total round amounts to six million euros.

Dr. Simon Koopmann, co-founder and CEO of envelio, says: "In the past year, envelio more than doubled its customer base. In addition to large-scale rollouts with major German customers such as Westnetz and E.DIS, we were also able to win several international customers such as Enel, Iberdrola and EDP. This round of financing will enable us to further accelerate and accelerate our international growth. "With this financing round, envelio plans to expand its international presence and to make specific resources available to its customers, particularly in Europe, Asia and North and South America.
