Bringing a company to exit is a complex journey; often exhilarating, sometimes excruciating, and certainly not for the faint-at-heart. For Terry Nawrot and Joe Tyler, this is familiar territory, since they scaled their former company Informz from a small startup to one of the most highly-regarded marketing automation companies on the planet. Using a multi-faceted approach that included communication, accountability, community give-back, and family-friendly employee benefits, Tyler and Nawrot built Informz into an award-winning company culture that not only received national acclaim but was a model that other companies tried to emulate. Informz made the Inc. 5000 for 4 years, received Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top Company Culture award in 2017, received the Best Places to Work award 3 years running and was also named 2017 Corporate Volunteer of the Year for the Albany, NY area. In early 2017, Tyler and Nawrot decided to sell Informz, and after a whirlwind of negotiations, the company was acquired later that year by Higher Logic. Tyler and Nawrot left Informz, and relishing the thrill of creating and watching a company flourish, they launched SpringStart, a Venture Capital firm geared for early-stage startups.
