About this event

Note: This fireside chat will be happening via Zoom as Jamie is unfortunately not able to travel due to Covid restrictions.

While in his final year of high school, Jamie co-founded Crimson Education to level the global playing field of university admissions for other young Kiwis from Auckland in 2013.

By reaching out to friends and teachers and with just $40 in a bank account, he and co-founder Sharndre Kushor hosted packed-out seminars and secured their first students and tutors.

A year later, Crimson gained its first NZD$1M in funding from which it began to grow its edtech footprint steadily. As funding scaled to USD$30M in 2016 and with a team of 25, Jamie continued to invest heavily in growing Crimson’s tech hub.

Fast forward to today, with a team of 450 based across 24 locations around the world, the Crimson Education Group is valued at USD$450M and includes early learning tutoring houses, a fully registered online high school, and a university admissions support and career mentoring platform.

Crimson’s university admissions is the most successful in the world, having supported thousands of students from over 30 countries to secure offers to their dream universities.

While serving as CEO of the company, Beaton graduated from Harvard University, Magna Cum Laude in 2016 (two years ahead of schedule) with a double-degree in Applied Mathematics-Economics and Applied Math. He was also one of the youngest in the world to be accepted to Stanford’s Graduate School of Business at age 20.

In June 2019, he graduated from Stanford with an MBA and a Masters in Education - the youngest ever recipient of the Arjay Miller Award (Top 10% of his class) - having simultaneously begun his PhD as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford.

In 2017, Crimson Education was named winner in the Central Auckland Westpac Business Awards for the category of Excellence in Innovation and in 2019, won the category of Best Emerging Business. Jamie and Crimson co-founder Sharndre Kushor featured on the 2017 Forbes Asia - 30 Under 30 List for Consumer Tech. Jamie has also been a NZ Hi-Tech Young Achiever finalist, Young New Zealander of the Year finalist and a finalist EY Entrepreneur of the Year.
