David Griessel graduated with a bachelor in Fine Arts from the University of The Free State. He has had 3 solo exhibitions and has participated in many group shows. In 2018 he did an art residency, book launch and exhibition in Caylus and Saint Antonin in France. He currently works as an artist/writer/illustrator in Cape Town and is the art editor of the literary journal, New Contrast. He is part of the artist’s collective, Studio Clowder. About the workshop How to run an entrepreneurial creative business: I want to start to highlight some key principles that can be applied to business in general and then narrow it down to what I do. I also want to talk about the pros and cons of being a micro business (or as Tim Ferris (author of the 4 hour week) calls it - a “one-trepreneurship”) Many entrepreneurial endeavours have a principal founder, but soon develop a whole team of people who run things, while my whole business is run only by myself. I do have contacts and a network of people who sell my art, but the whole dynamic is different from standard company models. Would be interesting to share my approach with people who work in teams and we might all learn something from one another.
