Evert Kleynhans (Rooistoel TV): The vividly talented and fiercely passionate new media designer behind television and video production company Rooistoel. He’s a dreamer. An Entrepreneur. A round peg in a square hole. A true creative thinker who will inspire you with his fantastical stories and innovative ideas. Until 13 years ago one would have been tempted to call Evert Kleynhans a serial careerist… that is, until he found his niche and formed his television and video production company. All his jobs past and present however involved his overriding passion – making a difference in people’s lives by adding value… Initially his company was called Black Cherry Productions but, laughs Evert, few got it right – often it became Black Berry Productions. So six years ago it became RooistoelTV. Being an ever-evolving brand, the company is now called Rooistoel because, as Evert explains, “TV is old hat, new media like cinemagraphs (or living photos) and live streaming is where it’s at now”. What makes for a successful business – whether it’s a coffee bar or a video production company? “Firstly, it’s really stupid to fight for a slice of the pie. Create your own pie. Secondly, you should be adaptable – you need to keep on giving your clients something new and fresh so that they stay ahead of the rest. It’s also important to know your limitations, to be able to say: ‘Sorry, I can’t do it, but I know of somebody who does it really well’. It’s also about staying abreast of what is happening in your industry – read books, attend courses and keep learning… always know what is trending. Be prepared to make mistakes, but learn from them, and then decide how you can do it better the next time.” Zita Olinger (Loerie Shortz): I got my B.A Degree in Graphic Design & started working at Genesis Images (my first job) while I was still waitressing. Genesis Images was the starting point of my film career. I got into the video industry (wedding videos), we tried it out and it worked. Due to financial reasons, I had to move on. I worked at various Graphic Design companies & God closed and open doors at the perfect time (His timing) I worked at White Friday Films part time, doing a lot of wedding videos. One day, a friend and I stopped at SPAR, I sat in the car. However, I saw a familiar face & just knew I had to introduce myself. I walked all the way around Spar (pretending to go in), and 'happened' to walk past him (Evert Kleynhans) gave him a firm handshake & knew this was going to be the start of a great relationship. I am a proud ambassador of Rooistoel. I'm so honored to be part of this radical team. I also own Loerie Shortz, where I get to choose the work coming in, preferably music videos as well as wedding videos. To conclude, my work journey consists of hearing from God, working hard & having discipline.
