Wednesday, February 28, 2018, 4:00 – 7:00 PM UTC

Join us in February with dynamic business woman, Jaclyn Engelbrecht. Jaclyn is an award winning and inspirational entrepreneur. Her company, Nov-U operates in the beauty industry, which she believes is a luxury industry, the biggest challenges she faced included convincing both her clients and staff that a recession is no reason to stop growing a business as well as managing cash flow.

About this event

I have always been inspired by beauty and education. In 2005 (my matric year) I attended a short-course on holistic massage therapy and started a small one man business doing massage treatments. In 2006, I started the UNISA early childhood development course as well as the grade R reception year teaching (simultaneously). I worked part time as a pre school teacher in the mornings and treated my massage clients in the afternoons while completing the one year courses.

My passion for the beauty and working of the human body had me enrolling for a Somatology National Diploma in 2007-2009. At the end of my academic year of 2009 I completed my international CIDESCO examination and established a small beauty salon - New Identity (Beauty) with in a hair salon in a lifestyle center. I operated as an owner/therapist while completing my Somatology B-Tech in 2010. In 2011 I was given another opportunity in education and started working as a part time junior lecturer at the Central University of Technology, while still operating alone in my salon. My passion for the beauty industry got me further interested in medical aesthetics and in 2012 I partnered with a medical doctor, revamping my salon space into an aesthetic clinic- First Aesthetic Cosmetic Emporium (F.A.C.E). The business grew and media exposure opened doors to new opportunities.

In April 2013 at 25 years old I was approached with an offer and I bought Nov-U, a professional distribution company serving primarily the Free State beauty sector. Since, the business has extended to the full Northern Cape, Free State and parts of the North West and Eastern Cape. In January 2014 I resigned as director from my Aesthetic company F.A.C.E and in 2015 from lecturing at C.U.T and focused my full energy on Nov-U. The focus for Nov-U changed from being solely on product and equipment supply to educating our clients (business owners) on how to sell our products to their clients and make a good profit. Naturally, the more the Nov-U clients businesses grew-so did Nov-U. Nov-U has grown 400% in less than four years. The platform of owning Nov-U allowed me to not only bring joy to a handful of clients with an improved appearance- it allowed me to help inspire, empower and grow other peoples businesses with in the beauty industry. The platform also opened the door leading to the beauty blogger of Woman & Business/ Sake Vrou in June 2016. I now wrote for the beauty page, kick starting my blogging career and igniting passion and joy for writing about beauty topics relevant to both the wholesale and retail aspects of the beauty market. I now run my own blog at jaclynivy.co.za.

In November 2016, Kryolan SA encouraged me to take a step into the retail market based on the success of retail workshops I had been hosting for my whole sale clients retail clients. The KRYOLAN FREESTATE retail shop opened its doors under the umbrella of Jaclyn Ivy Investments and is open to the everyday woman on the street for Kryolan make-up supplies. The make up artists teach women what they need and how to do it, also providing make up artistry services.

In 2017 I applied for my import/export licence and founded my third company- Beauty Innovation. Beauty Innovation supplies provincial sub distributors across SA and I am in the process of developing brands unique to the business.

I have always worked at my optimum efficiency under pressure, thus being a part of multiple business ventures at once empowers me as an individual, serving my WHY and greater purpose.
