About this event

STARTUP GRIND FIRE SIDE CHAT – MEL BOUND,

In October 2014 working mum Mel Bound launched a Facebook page, asking for others to join her on a run in a park in South Bristol. Within days hundreds of mums who struggled to fit exercise around work, life and child care had joined up.

Mel spotted a gap in the market for a community that could be an alternative to joining an expensive gym, but still offer encouragement and guidance. She left her job as global account director with an international brand engagement agency to concentrate on the new business full time.

The Mum Runs has encouraged more than 4,000 mums in the Bristol area.

Winning Female Start-Up of the Year at the annual Festival of Female Entrepreneurs, being listed on the prestigious Sunday Times Maserati Top 100 Disrupter Brands list and winning the Womens Sport Trust’s Be a Gamechanger Award has led to national recognition and accelerated growth.

Mel now has a thriving online store, women’s only coached running programmes and more than 250 free runs every month. The community has grown to 17,500 runners, with a team of 200 volunteer Run Angels and 60 Mums trained as qualified running coaches.

With support from Entrepreneurial Spark the company raised investment in 2016, achieving 145% of their funding target on crowdfunding platform, Crowdcube.

From 2 branches in the Bristol area, This Mum Runs has expanded to 27 across Bristol, London and Bath and a focus now on adding more locations across London and throughout the UK.
