We're featuring entrepreneur Debbie-Bates Schrott, founder and CEO of Bates Creative, a major Maryland based brand experience agency. Bates Creative's team elevates brands by bringing talent to the table that cannot be automated—creativity, imagination, intuition, ethics, and emotional intelligence. We're going to learn about Debbie, her entrepreneurial journey, the challenges she's overcome, and where's she's going personally and professionally. Debbie will be joined by Mark DeVito, president of Bates Creative, who Debbie brought on as her partner after 15 years in business. Debbie will share background into the strategy behind bringing a male partner to join her in business.
We’ll also be featuring a special "Speed Branding" brand hack where three young local startups will speed pitch their company to Debbie and Mark. Debbie Bates-Schrott, CEO and Founder of Bates Creative, has 25+ years of experience on branding, print and digital strategies. Her visionary perspective on cutting edge design initiatives guides her Bates Creative team as growing thought leaders in the media landscape. Debbie founded Bates Creative—a WBENC and WOSB certified agency—in 2003, and has successfully guided the agency’s progressive drive in the digital design spheres to year-over-year growth.
Debbie’s active role in the marketing community along with her engagement in strategic partnerships has positioned her as a sought after speaker. Her presentation experience on marketing, branding, editorial and digital transformations has taken center stage at Adobe events, The American Marketing Association conferences and FOLIO Show.
Debbie often collaborates with Bates Creative clients to present at local seminars and national conferences alike. Several past speaking engagements have featured clients including NACS, The National Business Aviation Association, ASIS, Heifer International and the Air Force Association.
Prior to launching Bates Creative, Debbie co-founded a graphic design agency before the age of 30. A graduate of The Corcoran College of Art + Design, Debbie also serves on numerous boards, including her active role as Chief Creative Officer for the DC Chapter of the American Marketing Association. She previously served on the boards of Association Media and Publishing, International Association of Business Communicators, and Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington. Debbie has also been recognized with the prestigious FOLIO: Top Women in Media award for her achievements as a leader.
A dynamic and entertaining speaker, Mark DeVito’s enthusiasm and creative thinking has engaged students, futurists and industry leaders for over 20 years. A three-time Emmy Award-winning creative director, Mark has led creative brand-centric campaigns and strategic content for clients ranging from Fortune 100 corporations to startups, domestic and international political figures, broadcast television networks, social awareness programs and PSA campaigns.
Mark has established himself as a well-renowned speaker with experience on stage at national marketing and technology conferences including: Sustainable Brands, the Mid-Atlantic Marketing Summit, Comdex and CES. Mark engages audiences on topics including the future of technology application to brand and CSR strategies from a modern brand engagement platform.
Additional speaking experience includes Mark’s central role in leading his motion capture team to present and host the Electronic Theater at Siggraph for three consecutive years. In addition, Mark recently addressed Thomas Dolby’s academic track at both MICA and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore to discuss the future of digital video and marketing strategies.
In academia, Mark has worked from coast to coast to create new coursework as a graduate level professor and as a host of lecture series at San Francisco State University, American University and Towson State University.
Moorenko’s is a family business, founded in 2002 by Susan Soorenko. She wanted a pure, delicious ice cream that she could feed to her children, without reservations — so she decided to create her own.
After studying under renowned ice cream experts in New York and a master gelato maker in Italy, Susan perfected her own process and recipe. She knew that Moorenko’s would be dedicated to making ice cream on another level — rich, decadent, and as wholesome as possible. Nearly 15 years later, she and her sons are still obsessed with ice cream, and working hard to share Moorenko’s with people all over the country. You can find Susan in the kitchen every day, helping with production, testing new flavors, and making sure that every last pint is perfect.
