Sam will share his experiences and insights as founder and CEO of KinometriX, a health tech startup providing hybrid hardware/software solutions to healthcare providers in the injury rehabilitation space. KinometriX has developed a system that uses small sensors to capture motion data on a patient's injured joint and then analyzes motion for key metrics: range of motion, speed of motion, fatigue, and neuromuscular control. The sensor uploads the data communicates with the their app, Clinicians can use the app to visualize the data and compare previous test results in order to generate reports for all parties involved. Prior to Inova, Michael was CEO of Appian Partners, an Annapolis, MD-based life sciences consulting practice. His med-tech experience spanned several early stage, growth stage, and turn-around ventures as CEO of Appian Partners, ReGear Life Sciences, NuSomnea, Tanzen Medical, Appian Medical, iSonea, and Sleep Solutions.
He was founder and CEO of Appian Medical, a digital health firm that developed an algorithm to diagnose Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Mr. Thomas spent 2.5 years as CEO of iSonea Ltd (ASX:ISN), a publicly traded global, asthma digital healthcare company. He raised $25MM for iSonea and increased the company’s market capitalization from $4MM to $250MM.
He is a member of the Board of Directors for Circadiance, a specialty CPAP mask manufacturer. Earlier in his career, Thomas was CEO of Sleep Solutions, a VC-¬‐backed medical device manufacturer. He raised over $50 million in VC funding. Prior to joining Sleep Solutions, Thomas was EVP of Sales and Marketing for National Sleep Technologies (NST), where he led acquisitions of more than 80 sleep labs, making NST the largest sleep testing company in the US. NST was later sold to GE Medical. Earlier in his career, Thomas was Vice President of Sales at Patient InfoSystems (NASDAQ: PATI) and instrumental in taking that company public while delivering an 80 X return to shareholders. As CEO, Sam leads the company on multiple levels including customer/product validation and service, fostering strong working relationships with current and potential investors, guiding the engineering, product, and software development teams and searching for the best possible candidates to fill critical roles.
Sam is a clinician by training, having completed his degree in Athletic Training from the University of Miami where he worked with dozens of current professional football, baseball and basketball players. Additionally, he was a part of the research team that worked to validate pragmatic technologies for objectively assessing patients’ injury status.
Before founding KinometriX, Sam worked as one of the first 5 employees at Helicase a boutique consulting firm specializing in human performance optimization. There Sam helped design and execute human performance strategies for the Secretary of Defense’s office, senior military colleges and corporate executives.
Sam holds a BS in Athletic Training from the University of Miami. He's a licensed and certified athletic trainer and a certified personal trainer,
