Wail A. Mousa currently serves as the Founding Dean, Entrepreneurship Institute (EI), and Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). His charge is to create a premier national model for Entrepreneurship education and business incubators in the region.
Dr. Mousa received two B.Sc. degrees (with honors) in electrical engineering and mathematical sciences and an M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering (EE) from KFUPM. Mousa’s Ph.D. is in electronics and electrical engineering from the University of Leeds, U.K. Mousa was the first Saudi to be sponsored by the Schlumberger Dhahran Carbonate Research (located in Dhahran Techno-Valley), for a Ph.D.
Dr. Mousa’s research interests include digital signal processing and its application in geophysics, with particular emphasis on Seismic Data Processing. He taught many courses Signal Processing courses in EE at KFUPM. At the same time, he introduced a couple of new courses in the EE department that mainly cover the Signal Processing aspects of Seismic Data Processing and Interpretation of Seismic Images. Also, he has more than 50 publications, conference proceedings and scientific reports, 5 issued USPTO patents, two published text-books with Cambridge University Press and Wiley, and a book with Morgan & Claypool, all are in his area of interest. His tireless efforts in promoting the area of Seismic Signal Processing has resulted in convincing the University administration to establish a collaboration between KFUPM and Georgia Tech (GT) that lasted for 8 years.
Dr. Mousa also held the post of Director of Business Development at KFUPM in 2009, where he worked with his colleagues in the university to develop KFUPM’s endowment and its branding. Also, in 2009 he became a coordinator for the Academic Leadership Center (ALC), Ministry of Education (formerly Higher Education), Saudi Arabia, and, in 2016 until 2018, become the ALC’s Assistant Director. Dr. Mousa was allowed a one-year (2012) type of exchange opportunity at Umm Al-Qura University (UQU) in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. While at UQU, he worked as a consultant to the Vice-Rector for Business and Innovation, where he helped establish UQU endowments. Also, he helped write the UQU Techno-Valley Company proposal and setup its strategy, as well as restructure the objectives and work distribution of the Local and International Collaboration Office. After he returned to KFUPM, Dr. Mousa served during 2012-2014 as the Director, Center for Business Incubators, KFUPM. He then became the first ever Assistant Dean, KFUPM’s Entrepreneurship Institute (EI), before named the Founding Dean of the Institute in August 2016.
