About this event

Brad is the co-founder and Chief Disruption Officer at Zoona which is Zambia’s leading mobile payments company. Born in Zambia, Brad and his brother realised that there was a tremendous opportunity to take a mixture of technology and entrepreneurial spirit to address the challenge of increasing financial inclusion in Zambia. Following a challenging start, Zoona closed a $4 million investment deal in early 2012. Since then, Zoona whose purpose is to help people send and receive money when they need to most so that communities can thrive has helped over 1.8 million Zambians transfer in excess of $530 million dollars. The company has invested over $650,000 in working capital for agents in order for them to grow their businesses, a strategy that has created almost 1,500 jobs. Zoona now has over 750 agents in over 80 towns across the country and has paid over $5.3 million dollars in commissions to agents. Most importantly, Zoona has paid $1.9 million in taxes to the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), thereby supporting Zambia's development from the ground up. Zoona was recently selected by the Unreasonable Group and the Nike Foundation as one of 10 leading wildly innovative startups that are positioned to benefit millions of girls in poverty. Zoona, which was voted the most trusted mobile payments company in Zambia, is building a Pan African business and currently operates in Zambia, Malawi and South Africa. In this chat, Brad will share how they started Zoona and raised millions in investment, and how they attract great talent and create a great and trusted workplace.
