Karen Nakawala is the CEO and founder of Afro Multi Media Productions, a successful media and events company. She is an avid entrepreneur and is the pioneering genius behind some of Zambia’s big events such as the Zambia Women of the Year Awards and Zambia Fashion Week. Karen has a background in PR and Marketing having worked for big corporations such as CFAO Zambia and Zambezi Airlines. She decided to venture out on her own after realizing she wasn’t getting satisfaction from her formal job. Her creative and artistic abilities have seen her on stage, in front of the television camera and on radio as a presenter. Her passion for fashion has seen her captain the local fashion industry through the Zambia fashion week which is now on the international calendar for fashion weeks. Karen is committed to lifting and empowering women. She creates opportunities for fellow women and believes that no circumstance is bigger than any woman; all they need is a second chance. She believes that women empowerment will lead to economic and social empowerment and her vision is to strengthen women and young girls. This single mother of two girls lets nothing stand in her way of achieving and has set her eyes beyond the skies. In the fireside chat Karen shares how she went from formal employment to running a successful media and events company.
