About this event

When we heard John Gumbley speak on the Hospitality Panel at this year's InfluenceMTL, we knew we wanted him to headline our second Fireside Chat of 2017!

Having launched and run some of the most successful nightclubs in the city, such as Orchid, Rouge, the Main, Muzique and Bord'Elle, John Gumbley built a nightlife empire with Montreal establishments bringing in 400,000 visitors annually and employing over 300 staff. His trend-setting clubs have welcomed the likes of Prince, Avicci, Guns and Roses, Drake, Black Eyed Peas, Rhianna, Chris Brown, Laid Back Luke, Jamie Foxx, Russel Simmons, Robert Deniro, LL cool J, Jazzy Jeff, Vin Deisel, Cypress Hill and many more!

But there is so much more to John, which is why October's Startup Grind is going to be one to remember!

With so many successes under his belt, John took the plunge into other spheres of entrepreneurship. He is a successful real estate investor, took his own a pizza franchise from 3 stores to 10 in only 18 months, organizes and brokers real estate deals, and co-founded a hip and exciting specialty travel company named XS Cancun. He then founded JEGantic, a one stop shop to help others create new businesses, and Orange Tree Media, to oversee and develop all the brands in the group in when it comes to digital and design.

So join us October 24th to network with some of the coolest players in Montreal's business community over food and drink and the sexy W Hotel along with a fascinating and insightful Fireside Chat with the multi-talented John Gumbley!

John Edward Gumbley

Jegantic

By age 23, John Gumbley (aka Jon Jay) had founded, co-owned, and operated a long list of massively successful businesses in music production and marketing that led him to discover his niche: a place where he could blend his love for music and entertainment with his insatiable desire to create tangible and profitable concepts to bring to the masses.

The JEG Montreal Nightlife Empire

John would soon go on to conceptualize, launch and operate some of Montreal’s most successful clubs and bars from the years 2001 to present day such as Orchid, Rouge, the Main and Muzique, all landmark establishments that set the trend for their respective genres.

At the peak of his nightlife empire, John’s establishments welcomed over 400,000 visitors each year and employed over 300 staff. To date, he’s had the honour to work with and host stars, celebrities, and athletes such as Prince, Avicci, Guns and Roses, Drake, Black Eyed Peas, Rhianna, Chris Brown, Laid Back Luke, Jamie Foxx, Russel Simmons, Robert Deniro, LL cool J, Jazzy Jeff, Vin Deisel, Cypress Hill and more.

On top of his nightlife exploits, John also took a pizza franchise from 2 stores to 10 in only 18 months, has helped organize broker multiple real estate deals, and co-founded a hip and exciting specialty travel company called XS Cancun.

JEGantic and Orange Tree Media

John’s incredible track record for success led him to launch Jegantic (John Edward Gumbley And The Incorporated Co-ownership), a one stop shop to help others create new businesses, and Orange Tree Media to oversee and develop all the brands in the group in when it comes to digital and design.

Bord’Elle: A New Gem of Montreal Nightlife

In December of 2016, Montreal saw the launch of Bord’Elle, a boutique bar and eatery with the Gatsby-esque grandeur of the roaring 1920’s in New York. Bord’Elle opened to mass critical acclaim including record setting social media posts for Journal de Montreal as well as La Presse. It consistently sells out night after night and in fact, weekend dinner service is sold out one month in advance.
