About this event

Andy MacClellan brings over 30 years of experience in the hotel management and development game to the Mississippi River banks. Andy is helping steer the development and construction of the $41M Merrill Hotel & Conference Center, a luxury four-star boutique hotel and meeting space venue in the heart of Muscatine, Iowa’s downtown riverfront area.

Andy is the founder of Scottford Enterprises which specializes in the Management, Asset Management and Consulting on Hotel and Resort Properties and Communities.

Named in honor of Stanley Merrill Howe, a Muscatine native who served as president, chairman and chief executive officer of Hon Industries, Inc. and who was a key benefactor of the city of Muscatine, the $42 million project will be located next door to the former Hotel Muscatine in the 100 block of West Mississippi Drive beautifully located across from the Mississippi River.

Revitalizing Downtown Muscatine

Hotel and conference center projects are known to be a catalyst for economic development, and the developers of The Merrill Hotel & Conference Center believe that the project will act as an economic engine that will provide the foundation Muscatine needs to make downtown businesses thrive. The property will accomplish this initially during its development phase, as the construction of the hotel itself is expected to have a significant economic impact on both the state of Iowa and on Muscatine County. Estimates predict the project will generate approximately $81 million and 550 jobs within Iowa, while the construction will translate to an approximate economic impact of $19 million and 100 jobs within Muscatine County over a two-year period.

Once the hotel is operating, The Merrill is expected to create approximately 70 jobs and will foster new corporate, group meeting and leisure demand in downtown Muscatine that will create additional jobs within the downtown community. This influx of activity will bring a steady stream of approximately 80+ visitors into the area each day. These visitors will boost revenues of local businesses, as each person creates additional demand for restaurant/bar revenue, entertainment and retail, thereby lifting property values and improving the district’s tax base. Over a 10-year span, the total economic impact of the project on Muscatine County is predicted to be approximately $31 million.

Founded in 1995 by Andy MacClellan, Scottford Enterprises was contracted by the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games to provide accommodations services for the HOST Campus Network at residence facilities that included all Georgia colleges and universities, the Georgia International Horse Park and Atlanta Union Mission. Scottford converted these facilities to accommodate approximately 13,000 officials, press, staff, volunteers and other guests during the Olympic Games Period.

Andy served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Dolce International, the global leader in the Conference Center Hotels & Resort business. He has also been involved with a number of other projects including: the JetBlue Lodge, Orlando, Fla; the Domaine de la Brie, Euro- Disney, Paris; the Mixed Use Development in the French Quarter, New Orleans; the Lake Okanagan Resort, Kelowna, BC; the Atlanta Airport Hotel; and many more.
