Asa Walesa is Construction Industry Professional and the founder of TenderPoint South Africa. His interest for the industry began at Port Rex Technical School in East London, where he was exposed to Interior Architecture. However, it was his numerical abilities that led to his decision to study Quantity Surveying at Nelson Mandela Municipality University ( now Nelson Mandela University ) . Asa always knew he wanted to build a business that would have scale and social impact. When he first heard the word 'social entrepreneur' he Knew this is what he would become. After a very brief stint working for a construction consultancy, his passion to start building his own company led to move in to Port Elizabeth in 2014, after being aware of which gaps existed in the ecosystem. His upbringing taught him the importance of community, having been raised by people who did social work. His work experience showed him how he could contribute to society in a positive way. He then coupled with his love of helping people and technology, the idea of TenderPoint, a construction procurement platform that assists emerging contractors in being compliant and run projects efficiently. He pitched his idea on the Pitch & Polish platform and has not looked back since. Aside from working at TenderPoint, he is a very active supporter of the creative economy, especially when it comes to music, design and fashion. In another life he was once a writer and a poet, so this is not surprising. He has also taken is experiences as an entrepreneur in the Eastern Cape to inform, educate and assist any aspiring business people in the city.
