As a relatively new tech-based startup in Sarawak, ARx Media is gradually making their presence felt through various ventures especially in the areas of mobile app development, augmented reality (AR) and Internet of Things (IoT). Their contributions in producing the largest AR mural in Malaysia as well as the Qmunity app have proven their commitment in prioritising the community. This fireside chat will introduce you to two of the ARx Media founding team members, Zelt and Nicholas. They will be sharing their journey in forming ARx Media as well as their views on the role of startups in assisting the community apart from the commercial dimension of entrepreneurship.

Before devoting his work full-time to ARx Media, Nicholas freelanced as a web designer for SME and startups after achieving a bachelor’s degree. With a passion to digitalize the business industry in his hometown, Nicholas developed and managed numerous websites that tell the story of local businesses.
Over the years, a stronger passion and vision to improve the local tech industry, Nicholas partnered up with a group of like-minded people and founded ARx Media. Started out in iCube Innovation, ARx team has been incubated by mentors and community there that has precipitated the startup to grow exponentially. From there, ARx team has since been working with governments, local and foreign businesses. As a director of ARx Media, Nicholas directs and oversees the design and development of systems used for managing data and other business intelligence systems. He creates functional strategies and specific objectives to ensure they meet the organizational requirements. Besides, Nicholas also in charge of the company’s website design department, catering to the needs of digitalizing local businesses.
In addition to being a technology company director, Nicholas also taught students in Swinburne University of Technology as a part-time tutor in the field of information communication technology. As an educator, Nicholas integrates his working experience to the university curriculum and shares the real-world practice to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industrial practices.
Apart from work, Nicholas is devoted in self-development. He joined non-profit educational organizations that operates club worldwide like Toastmasters International and Junior Chamber International. From his involvement, he was trained by leaders from all walks of life. Nicholas proceed to guide the club in presidential position and was elected as the Area Director for several clubs. As a firm believer of the importance of community, he continues his involvement in club activities and train leaders within and outside of the club.
Zelt is an entrepreneur that is driven in spearheading innovative community and business development initiatives to provide sustainable impactful solutions to address community needs. Also, he is an expert in business development and business modeling to provide a competitive advantage for businesses, project planning and project management. He is highly engaged in tutoring, training, coaching and mentoring for youths, NGOs and corporate organizations for more than 10 years, specializing in personal and leadership development, entrepreneurship, management and motivation. He served as a National Officer and will continue to serve as the National Skills Development Commission Chairman. Zelt has also received his certification as the HRDF Certified Trainer in Malaysia.
Currently the managing director of ARx Media Sdn Bhd, he leads the team to succeed in the technology industry through his outstanding critical thinking and strategic planning skills in projects involving augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), Internet of Things (IoT), mobile application and many more. He hopes to contribute towards Malaysia being an entrepreneur hub in South East Asia, providing strategic solutions for the marketplace while competing on the same playing level with the market leaders in this technology era.
Aside from running a tech company, Zelt runs a confinement care family with his spouse seeing it as a business with strong family values. The company focuses on establishing a validated standard operating procedure (SOP) in this relatively new industry in the market and manages its business management and operations through a customized management software for the ease of future expansion. The company targets to explore the market outside of the Chinese Community as confinement care practices are not exclusive to the Chinese population. As much as the effect from the Industry 4.0 revolution where numerous business faces the risk of retrenchment, he believed that this service industry will stay valid for many years to come foreseeing a huge growth in the industry in the near future.
He visions to start a foundation which will be able to providing training and upskilling opportunity for young graduates, drop outs from schools and the underprivileged communities. By giving back to the community, he hopes the world can be a better place because we did something positive about it.

Malcolm is the Strategic Manager for iCube, Sarawak’s leading co-working space and community for entrepreneurs. He leads strategic partnerships, supports local startups and entrepreneurs in scaling their business and develops global connecting platforms to showcase Sarawak’s growing startup ecosystem. Malcolm is a firm believe in the power of #GiveFirst and is an extremely active regional community leader where he support founders through a myriad of startup programs. He created Free Coworking Day (FCWD) in mid 2017 which has since connected over 90 co-working spaces throughout 120 locations in Asia Pacific. Malcolm is a certified Techstars Global Startup Weekend Facilitator and has facilitated 14 programs in Malaysia. He is also the Chapter Lead for Google Business Group Sarawak, and Scout for AWS Activate Program.
