Closing the financing gap for small businesses has become a policy priority for public and private sector players especially in developing economies around the world. Access to funding has remained an underlying issue faced by Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs) and a critical barrier to their growth especially in a developing economy like Nigeria. The 2020 SME survey report by PwC shows that access to finance was the most pressing challenge faced by small business in Nigeria. According to the report, the financing gap for Nigerian MSMEs is estimated to be about N617.3bn annually.
