Startup Grind Launches in São Carlos, Brazil

The Technology Capital of Brazil is now part of Startup Grind community.

Brazil is a blessed country: it has a nearly continental size, a big consumer market, world-class biodiversity, a wealth of natural resources, and yet it avoids most natural disasters. Despite the latest growth and potential, our nation is still considered an emerging country. But Brazilians aren't turned off by the label, because we know what it means: Brazil offers endless opportunities for anyone create success for themselves and their employees as an entrepreneur, and improve the lives of those across the entire country. With the launch of Startup Grind in São Carlos, entrepreneurs now have a supporting community of fellow founders to depend on.

Starting Up in São Carlos

São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are Brazil's most well known cities. Being the largest and most developed, the cities also benefit from rather mature entrepreneurial scenes featuring ample incubators, accelerators, venture capitalists, angel investors, and strong support systems for social entrepreneurship, FinTech, and BioTech. Entrepreneurs here have easy access to inspiration, support, friends, coworkers -- in fact, the city is so developed you can even grab great Mongolian cuisine at 3 AM and follow up with Italian ice cream for desert.

They are comfortable cities to live in specially because every time there was a need or a problem, somebody would see it as an opportunity and would act on it to enrich everyone's lives. These people that acted are entrepreneurs.

So what would happen if we had even more entrepreneurs everywhere?

Or even more important, why don't we have already that many entrepreneurs already?

Thinking about the second question in São Carlos, we have two of the best universities in the country, University of São Paulo (USP) and Federal University of São Carlos (USFCar), and over 20,000 students who are mostly engineers.

Most still do not consider starting their own business an option, and some would say that it is because it is very hard and the rates of failure are great, or because they want to work in consulting, banking, management, or engineer, with a stable salary. Some still say they do not want to share their ideas out of the fear of someone else stealing them.

We believe Startup Grind São Carlos has the power to improve this, as we will focus to inspire anyone to start their own business, educate them on how to develop their ideas while reducing failure risks, and connect all the players in the ecosystem to become friends, share all their experience and have each other as supporters.

São Carlos is the city with the most PhDs per square mile in the whole country, and also located in the middle of Ribeirão Preto and Araraquara, two other very promising cities filled with great universities. These ingredients combined with some entrepreneurial support and guidance might be what is needed to have the next big thing - maybe exoskeletons, or bio tissue 3D printers, or something else with the potential to change the world. The possibilities have no limits, and we are proud to say that Startup Grind has arrived to help our city make the world even more wonderful.

Don't miss out the first event at January 14th 2016 at Bridge Coworking Space, hosting Danilo Serafim Alves, agent of innovation at Sebrae who will share his story and thoughts and the eco system in the area.
