Startup Grind Provo Welcomes Josh Coates (Instructure, Mozy)

A multi-million dollar exit is something every entrepreneur dreams of, and Josh Coates achieved it.  In 2005 Josh founded Berkeley Data Systems that brought us Mozy, an online data storage system offering remote backup services.  Berkeley Data Systems and Mozy were sold in 2007 for $76 million after having raised only $1.9 million.

Josh will be the speaker at the inaugural event for Startup Grind Provo on September 12, so be sure to reserve your seat here.  We will hear about Josh’s education at UC Berkeley, and his years spent in Silicon Valley.  It was in the Valley where he launched his first company Scale Eight in 1999 that he ran for four years before closing its doors and selling the intellectual property to Intel Corporation.

Josh was an early seed investor for Instructure, and joined as CEO 18-months ago. Josh has among other things helped the open-source LMS leader negotiate a multi-year contract with The Cisco Networking Academy.  This deal will add more than 1 million of The Academy’s active users to Instructure’s 2.7 million existing users.  Millions of users and a multi-year contract with Cisco aren’t bad considering the startup is only four years old.

Between his exits and founding new companies Josh spent time at Internet Archive in 2003 and 2004.  Since 2007 Josh has volunteered as an adjunct professor at Brigham Young University, where his students have repeatedly lauded him as an inspiring teacher.

Not only can Josh create amazing companies, but he can pass on his amazing experience to others.  Any entrepreneur can learn a lot from Josh and should be in attendance as he enlightens us on September 12.  Reserve your ticket now so you don’t miss out on this amazing Startup Grind Provo event.
