Bali, Indonesia is a paradise island linked more with relaxing than hard work. The surfing is more off-shore than online. That’s now changing rapidly with the stream of entrepreneurs setting up shop in Bali for the mix of work and lifestyle they can achieve.
The latest sign of this is the launch of Startup Grind in Bali. Startup Grind is a global community of entrepreneurs, with 100 local chapters in 42 countries. Their inaugural event in Bali is being held this August 16th at Vision Villas, Bali’s Entrepreneur Resort.
The Bali chapter of Startup Grind, powered by Google for Entrepreneurs, is open to the many entrepreneurs on the island who are looking to learn and connect while hearing from inspiring speakers who have grown their companies to make an impact in the world.
What can that look like? The main speaker for the first event, Steve Piro, the founder and managing director of Synergy Carbon. The company was recently recognised in Huffington Post as one of "Bali's 10 Hottest Tech Startups."
The company has been the lead consultant for the University of Multimedia Nusantara, which won the 2013 Award for most Energy Efficient Building in Indonesia, and the Indonesian International Expo, the largest Expo Center in South East Asia. It was also behind the Herman Miller Showroom, which has become Indonesia's first LEED Platinum Building. From Bali, Steve has created the leading company in energy efficient design in Asia Pacific.
Why Bali? As Startup Grind Bali Director, Simone Holt, says “Remote working has changed the game. With technology, entrepreneurs can now have a global impact working from anywhere. So why not live where you would love to live? Bali is not just an ideal location, but its spirit and people keep you grounded to the impact you can have. It also has a peace to keep perspective on the bigger picture. Sometimes that’s more difficult to appreciate in big cities.”
Startup Grind Bali is celebrating that global and local connection by having global entrepreneur news and speakers at each event, while also sharing local news and supporting local causes and change makers at each event.
If you’re an entrepreneur seeking to make a greater impact and connect to the movement, we welcome you to Startup Grind Bali.
