Fireside Chat with Dr. Pam Marrone (CEO and Founder of Marrone Bio Innovations)

The inaugural event was a wonderful success.  Here are some of the nuggets of wisdom that standout in my mind with my conversation with Dr. Pam Marrone:

  • When getting money from investors, make sure that you and your investors share the same values

  • Best investors have actual business experience (vs. Stanford or Harvard MBA grads that get a job directly with a venture fund without ever having run a business)

  • Make sure you get a good lawyer to protect your interests

  • Funding is a sales process, and the (CEO/Founder) needs to be the best sales person

  • When you're an entrepreneur, you have to break down barriers.  Pam actually helped get a law passed that shorten the time for the EPA to review products

  • Marrone Bio Innovations was named after Pam's father.  Marrone means chestnuts and can be also translated as cojones or guts.

  • Business is a Marriage between your partners, yourself, and investors so choose wisely

  • Pam is very passionate about the environment.  She finds herself scolding employees for not recycling.
