Today I had an opportunity to chat with the sports micro-broadcasting company, Gridiron Grunts, which enables fans to listen, send and receive voice messages from NFL athletes. Gridiron Grunts is entering into its second year and will be launching some much-anticipated features - video and pictures. Also this year the parent company, Gridiron Ventures, is planning to explore other verticals such as College Football.
CEO Jeb Terry is happy with his beta year results which attracted roughly 20,000 paying customers and 80+ participating NFL athletes. He believes that fans will continue to desire a better athlete engagement platform, and he plans to lead the way. Terry believes that current platforms (e.g. Twitter) lack authentic engagement and he plans to beat them on high-quality, genuine content.
On a side note, I wish Tiger Woods would have "grunted" yesterday. I would love to know what went through his head after winning his first victory on the PGA Tour in over 2 1/2 years.
Gridiron Grunts is available for free download in the App Store and Google Play. Individual athlete subscriptions start at 99 cents and all-access subscription is $4.99 monthly.
