Startup Grind Launches in Charleston, SC

As a member of the Charleston entrepreneurial community, I couldn't be more excited to announce that Startup Grind, a global Light Backgroundstartup community powered by Google for Entrepreneurs, has arrived in Charleston, SC!

If you've been around Charleston the last few years, I’m sure you're no stranger to the entrepreneurial surge that is flowing through the city.  What started as a city dominated by the food, beverage, and tourism industry - has recently given way to an influx of entrepreneurs from a myriad of industries calling Charleston home.

On March 28, Startup Grind held its kickoff event at Nelson Mullins in downtown Charleston and had the opportunity to host a fireside chat with local entrepreneur Mitchell Davis of BiblioLabs.  Mitchell shared his story about starting his first company, Book Surge, and how he helped grow the company until it was acquired by Amazon.  Mitchell emphasized the importance of building a strong team and how his biggest challenge is making sure he doesn’t do anything to stand in the way of accomplishing their personal and career related goals.

The chat ended with Mitchell introducing his new company, BiblioLabs, and offering $10,000 to anyone who referred a superior mobile engineer that was hired.

One of the best parts of the event was the candid discussions that took place during the Q&A session.  Several members of the audience talked about their leadership challenges and received advice from others in the room.  You could tell by the energy in the room that the group was starting to form a community – a community based on helping, learning, inspiration and becoming friends – the exact values that Startup Grind is all about.
