Just like the pioneers 165 years ago, Startup Grind is migrating to Utah. But, unlike the people who fled persecution; we are headed to Utah to get our hands on the bright entrepreneurial minds that call Utah home. Join the community here.
Laymen and entrepreneurs alike have long made their homes in the fertile valleys of Utah. Those who live within the valleys have an easy escape to the many scenic destinations within the state. Breath taking scenery such as Arches National Park (pictured), Moab, and many other red rock canyons are easily within reach for a weekend canyoneering adventure. Fishermen claim Utah’s rivers as the ultimate destination for fly-fishing. Celebrities, professional skiers, and snowboarders flock yearly to Park City for some of the world’s best skiing. But, beautiful scenery and sky resorts are not all that Utah has to offer the startup community.
Utah was on the map long before the 2002 Winter Olympics, thanks to successful technology companies. As early as 1979 companies like Novell and WordPerfect helped brand Utah as a hub for technology and software development. Since that time many more companies have helped swell the ranks, such as Omniture, ZAGG, Ancestry, Skullcandy, Qualtrics and many others. The swelling ranks of technology and life science companies in Utah have earned the state the fitting nickname of the Silicon Slopes. There are dozens of best in class entrepreneurs here and we're going to bring them to you.
Many of the founders of these successful companies have been through several exits and have relevant experience that should be shared not only with Utah entrepreneurs but all within reach of the Startup Grind network. The stories, experiences, and lessons shared by our speakers will make the Silicon Slopes even more lucrative. Feel free to attend our first event this coming Fall when the transient student community rejoins us.
Numerous companies (like those listed above) are fortunate enough to have proven products and steady revenue streams, but many are still in the early stages bootstrapping their way to a bright future. Many of these bootstrapped companies are started by over eager college students who give in to the allure of entrepreneurship. These early stage companies are supported locally by the entrepreneurial community through organizations such as LaunchUp and Utah’s own incubator BoomStartup.
Founders, entrepreneurs, and wantrapreneurs are all invited to attend Startup Grind’s first Utah event. The first event will be help Wednesday September 12 and will follow the normal layout of networking and a fireside chat. More details regarding speaker and location are coming soon.
