Before getting to the details of the event this month, I want to first say how thrilled I am to be a part of the StartupGrind franchise. I was a big fan of the event here in New York, having helped recruit my boss, David S. Rose back in March. A big thanks to Perri Gorman for introducing me to Derek Andersen --and to Derek for making me a part of his mission with SG.
I'm excited to bring some of the smartest entrepreneurs and investors that I know to StartupGrind and the lessons they've shared with me to all of you. On June 14th, the wonderful folks at AOL Ventures will host grinders and our special guest Laurel Touby. Laurel is best known as founder of MediaBistro, who is now an active angel investor. Laurel is also mentor at TechStars, hosts the fabled Flatiron networking event the Cereal Entrepreneurs Breakfast, and hosted "Secrets of Successful Startups" on CBS Interactive earlier this year.
As CEO of MediaBistro, Laurel raised money after the dot.com bubble burst and sold amidst the economic meltdown. She is living proof that it's possible to build a successful company against all odds. Aside from her personal story, we'll talk with Laurel about the future of online journalism, and the role she sees New York playing in the tech world going forward.
