Dr. Al Pierre

Dr. Al Pierre has been in the practice of Human Medicine in both the public and private sector for over 20 years throughout the Caribbean and the United States. He is often challenged when asked where he is from, recognizing that one's country is not merely where they were born, but instead where they were made and therefore he considers himself to be 100% Caribbean Made! With that said much of his immediate roots can be traced back to the islands of Dominica and St. Lucia.

Al has held multiple leadership positions throughout his career and has served as an Advisor to regional governments and organizations on areas such as Universal Healthcare Access, Healthcare Financing and Innovation. In his more recent role he serves as the Director of Health Services with ADTALEM Global Education Group. Over the span of his career, he has engaged in various research topics and authored multiple publications on chronic non-communicable diseases. He is a passionate advocate for improved access to quality, equitable healthcare for patients living in the Caribbean. In 2014 he stepped away briefly from the practice of Medicine to enter the Technology industry as a self-taught software developer and technology entrepreneur. Bringing this experience and passion to bear he recently founded GoDocta which is now a member of Interplay Ventures NY portfolio where other unicorns like Coinbase and Warby Parker got their start. GoDocta is embarking on this ambitious mission to revolutionize the way in which people access healthcare. The company's comprehensive and ground breaking solution earned them a coveted spot among the 200 most Innovative Technology Startups in the world and was hosted at Tech Crunch Disrupt in San Francisco last month.

Dr. Pierre graduated with a Medical Degree from Villa Clara, Cuba and subsequently pursued post-graduate studies at UWI St. Augustine in Trinidad and Tobago. He also holds Master's Degrees in Business Administration, Public Health and Epidemiology; Medical Law and Ethics from the United Kingdom. He is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and ADHD Clinical Services Provider, as well as Certified Project Management Professional, Agile-Scrum Master,

He is a proud winner of a 2018 IBM Blueflame Hackathon, bullish on quantum computing and ethical uses of AI technology particularly in the field of healthcare and an accomplished marksman or sportshooter. Dr. Pierre describes a perfect disconnect from his professional life as time spent with family, entertaining friends, cooking, fishing, globetrotting or satisfying his voracious appetite for visual and literary arts, amongst which the works of Sir Derek Walcott and Rudyard Kipling stand out.
