Benjamin Ufaruna is the co-founder and CEO of BuyPower Inc.- a company that seeks to solve consumer payment challenges in Nigeria and eventually Africa. He started working as a computer software engineer in 2009 while in the final year in university. Since then, he has lead different software engineering teams in building ground breaking products including Payporte to name a few. In 2016, he and his co-founder launched the website, buypower.ng; a digital bill payment platform in response to the challenges they observed around electricity payments in Abuja, Nigeria. In just 5 months of executing that idea, as a result of the explosive traction experienced; BuyPower got funded by one of the biggest Micro Venture capitalists in the world called YCombinator which has funded multi billion dollar companies in the world like Airbnb, Dropbox, Stripe e.t.c. BuyPower Inc. was the first company in Northern Nigeria to be funded by the prestigious YCombinator. He went to further raise capital in 7 digits in dollars for BuyPower Inc from Venture Capitalist Firms and Angel Investors in Silicon Valley California. He continues to relentlessly execute BuyPower and has grown to processing transaction volumes in billions monthly servicing several hundreds of thousands of customers in less than 2 years. Benjamin is passionate about using technology to solve local problems and advises startups in his spare time.
