We're bringing Denise Matthews, Operations Manager at GSX Blockchain Innovation Centre to tell us all about that and we will learn how they roll in Gibraltar!

ONE MEDIA AND EVENTS
Born and brought up in Gibraltar, Denise has been working for many years in the industry of PR, media and events. Chapter Director of Startup Grind Gibraltar, Operations Manager at GSX Group’s Blockchain Innovation Centre Business Development Manager for Gibraltar at Coinsilium, the UK accelerator.
Born and brought up in Gibraltar her entrepreneurial journey started at the age of 22 launching the first company in PR and promotional work ‘DM Promotions’, since the early days her passion for running and creating her own business models was clear with a fiercely entrepreneurial family background.
Also involved in a landmark case at a young age for Gibraltar when she was denied the right to vote in the first European elections the case was taken to the European Court of Human Rights and was successful. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthews_v_United_Kingdom
After taking time out to start a family and living abroad she returned to her hometown in 2017 and soon set up a new business One Media and Events. The application to become City Chapter Director for Gibraltar for the organisation Startup Grind powered by Google for Entrepreneurs was successful and the first event which sold out with over 100 attendees was launched in March 2017. In February 2018 Denise was given the “Rookie of the Year” Award in San Francisco during the director’s retreat organised at the SuG Global Conference for being the best new chapter in a city with a population of only thirty thousand.
During this time Gibraltar Government announced the regulatory framework for Distributed Ledger Technology also known as Blockchain. Because of her work in supporting startups, tech and creating a network they became actively involved by sponsoring her events. The platform that SuG together with this development locally has opened up multiple opportunities in this new tech industry and in the past 4 months she has been appointed to represent two globally well known blockchain related groups the GSX Group’s Blockchain Innovation Centre and Coinsilium.
Startup Grind Andorra
Ex-jugador profesional de Baloncesto entre los años 1984 y 2002, jugó en el F.C. Barcelona, Joventut de Badalona y Panathinaikos de Atenas Internacional. Jugó para el equipo olímpico 156 veces y cuenta con infinidad de títulos y reconocimientos deportivos, tanto individuales como colectivos.
Sin embargo, Ferran Martinez supo dar el salto al mundo de los negocios con éxito. Cursó estudios de programación e informática, así como análisis financiero y mercados de renta variable (CEF). Posee un E-MBA (La Salle, Universidad Ramón Llull, Barcelona, y Saint Mary 's University (San Francisco, EE.UU.)). Tras su retirada del deporte de alta competición, ha creado y ha dirigido unidades de negocio destinadas al asesoramiento y gestión de altos patrimonios de deportistas de élite y "Celebrity" en los grupos financieros UBS, Banco Sabadell, Mirabaud y Andbank.
Actualmente se ha especializado en la creación de startups tecnológicas, en los campos blockchain, Fintech, o quantum computing. Es socio y CEO de la compañía Dekaland y fundador de Globatalent (empresa blockchain de la industria del deporte). Así mismo, es socio de las empresas Entanglement Partners, consultora sobre computación cuántica, Fangazing, Lánzame Capital y World-Mastery (e-learning). Ha escrito cinco libros de "management", coaching y finanzas, y es conferenciante y coach. Colabora con la CEA (Confederación Empresarial de Andorra) como embajador económico para Estados Unidos, y asesora a la Federación de Andorra de Fútbol y al Gobierno de Andorra en temas de innovación.

MarsBased is a full-remote development consultancy from Barcelona specialised in web and mobile applications developed with Ruby on Rails, AngularJS and Ionic. Àlex runs the sales/marketing area and is in charge of communications & growth of the company.
In barely 2 years, he's done:
- 5-digit contracts within weeks of having launched the company.
- 6-digit contracts eight months after the creation of the company.
- Grown the company (LLC) to 10 full-time employees & 5 freelancers.
- International clients from three different continents, hailing from USA, Germany, Spain, Abu Dhabi, France, UK, Singapore and Finland.
- Providers for development of the core product for some of their clients.
- Featured in press for some of their outstanding projects like the Barcelona Startup Map, among others.
In 2015, Àlex became responsible for the expansion of the Startup Grind brand in Southern Europe (Portugal, Spain, Italy, Austria, Switzerland)
His background in consulting & development (ex-Deloitte, ex-VASS) and his international profile helps him with the technical and the business perspective.
