What to Expect?
Together with Huawei Germany, Startup Grind Beijing has teamed up with Startup Grind University Beijing and German Innovators in China to organize an IDEATHON Weekend!
The goal of the IDEATHON is to encourage young professionals from various cultural backgrounds to exchange insights while developing innovative and creative solutions for challenges faced by man today.
Join us on the weekend of September 7th, as we share a unique experience with 20 German students from top universities carefully selected by Huawei Germany.
What is an IDEATHON?
Similar to a hackathon, an IDEATHON is a less intense alternative that is more suitable for startups and young entrepreneurs. It is a golden opportunity for students to learn directly from experienced mentors while showcasing their fresh and creative ideas in front of a panel of judges.
The top 3 winning teams can also expect a ton of cool prizes. They also stand a chance to bring home 5000RMB in cash and Huawei P30 PRO phones!
Plus, we have prepared a plethora of food and light bites to accompany you as you develop your idea with your team!
This event is for you if you are curious and:

#1 Digital fight against climate change.
Climate change is growing into a worldwide disaster. From rising sea levels to shifting weather patterns, the impacts of climate change are global and can lead to unfavorable conditions.
In this challenge, your team's task is to develop a digitally sustainable solution to improve the fight against climate change.
You can go bold by thinking of a revolutionary solution. Or you can play it safe by providing an easier solution that could be implemented by anyone in their day-to-day life.
#2 Globalization 2.0:
Breaking the language and culture barrier by using AI technology.
Whether you have been in Beijing for a while, or only a few days, you must have faced a language and culture barrier during your first interaction with the native residents.
In this challenge, your team's task is to use AI technology, to find a way to bypass language and culture barriers. Your solution needs to be the answer to make any foreigner’s life easier while adapting to a new country. Think of it as a solution to take out the guesswork of "is this right or not".
#3 Digit the *** out of your student life.
Think of all the struggles you endured as a student. The list is presumably endless and could probably include a few of these: narrow curriculum diversity, little financial aid, few student activities, adult life reality kicking in, lack of support to start your own business, a limited number of resources for your entrepreneurial mind, and so on.
According to you, what would have been a tremendous help for a smoother start into the journey of student life?
In this challenge, your team's task is to create a digital solution that you wished you had when you started? Get together with your team, compare, scale, and help the future entrepreneurial minds reach the stars!
#4 Smart City
How do you make a city smart? By using technology – in particular, the Internet of Things (IoT).
The concept of smart cities is an emerging trend and brings many benefits. However, many still face struggles when it comes to deploying the smart city concept effectively. This is often related to challenges with digital security.
In this challenge, your team is required to create a digital solution. This solution should not only improve the efficiency but the effectiveness of IoT in building a smart city
#5 Open Challenges
This is the challenge where you get to showcase your diversity and creativity. It's your time to shine.
In this challenge, your task is to use your team’s diverse background to brainstorm over a problem that is recurrent to every team member, and that could be easily solved with a digital innovative solution. Let your imagination go above and beyond, and use your team’s strength to help the community.
Yaoli Wang is a postdoctoral researcher at Peking University’s Spatial-Social Sensing Lab. Outside of her research, Yaoli is an AngelHack Beijing community lead ambassador.
Her mission is to encourage technology entrepreneurship and convert academic innovations in technology into industrial products to solve real problems.
She holds a Ph.D. in Infrastructure Engineering from the University of Melbourne. Prior to her Ph.D., she’s received an M.A. from the University of Georgia focusing on community detection in social and spatial networks.
Alvaro (梦龙) is a telecom engineer from Barcelona with an MBA from Tsinghua University. Alvaro is the co-founder of Akkadu, a live translation platform for events located in Tsinghua x-lab the accelerator of Tsinghua University.
Akkadu is a remote simultaneous translation solution that aims to make events accessible to anybody, anytime, anywhere by live translating and streaming events audios and presentations so on-site and remote audience can listen, watch, interact and learn in their own languages
Claire is leading Mor.AI's marketing, business cooperation and human resources planning.
Under her leadership, the team opened up the automotive and home appliance market, and reached business cooperation with a number of international, local car manufacturers and globally renowned home appliance brands.
Formerly, she was DJI-Innovations North America Human Resources and Customer Relations Leader.
Further, Claire formerly was North America's senior hi-tech industry executive searcher. She has provided excellent technical backbones for companies such as Microsoft, Bank of America, and Apple.

Rhea See is the Co-Founder and COO of She Loves Tech, a global platform committed to building an ecosystem for technology, entrepreneurship and innovation that creates opportunities for women. It houses the world's largest tech startup competition focused on women-led or women-impact businesses.
Previously in charge of the performing arts programs at Parinama Cultural Development Foundation, a non-profit arts and culture foundation, she currently consults for them on branding, program development and new media initiatives. She also has marketing and public relations experience from Lean in China, Estee Lauder Companies, Edelman, etc.
Weiyi is an enthusiast for entrepreneurship.
Coming from the academic background of crisis communication and global business journalism, Weiyi focuses on providing perspective and meaning to the new business realities in China with my skills of research, analysis, and writing.
Having a great passion for entrepreneurship, she is also leading startup Planitworld to boost the recycling rate in Beijing by empowering community members through technology, which granted me great opportunities to connect with Beijing startup communities, Tsinghua incubators, inspiring entrepreneurs, as well as familiarizing herself with project management, time management, and leadership.

In 2016, Jill has been selected as the only female entrepreneur from Shanghai to represent startups in China at global entrepreneurship summit initiated and hosted by President Obama. In the same year, she was nominated as the finalist for 2016 Australia China Young Alumni of the Year.
She holds MBA from Melbourne Business School. She also holds Master of Applied Finance from Monash University as well as Bachelor of Commerce from La Trobe University
Biman Najika Liyanage
Biman is nominated for the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia for the class of 2017 in the Field of Healthcare and Sciences. Biman is a researcher, innovator, and entrepreneur who has co-founded several technology ventures in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong focusing on Mobile Internet Technology and Smart material based wearable technologies. He founded a number of tech companies including Bidup, CirQ Technologies, he is also the partner of Tamo Tech.

Biman has worked in many areas ranging from Sensor Design for UAV’s to Fashion technology cooperating with many fortune 500 companies including Microsoft, Intel, Tencent etc. As a highlight, he worked with Chinese Television Network (CCTV) integrating wearable technology in Spring festival gala synchronizing 165 dancers through real-time gesture recognition. His work has been featured in national and international media including CRI, CCTV, The Nation, Forbes etc.
Martin is a London trained graphic designer with 20 years professional experience in pitching, training, advertising, creative direction, branding, film, and events.
He runs a creative studio, Mountains Of Imagination (MoI) which specializes in visualization and making sure people enjoy their future spotlight moments aka pitching and presentations. Their goal is to maximize occurred opportunities by standing out, connecting and being memorable to their audience.
Martin is also the director for Wheels Plus Wings an amazing social venture who's aim is to improve mobility for disabled children and so have positive effects for their independent future, their families and communities of which he developed the name, brand identity, and design.
Martin has also given a TEDxBeijing talk in 2010 where he spoke about a truly innovative project he developed for Peugeot cars where he co-directed a series of short films where blind and visually impaired photographers who became sensory art directors and they collaborated on 18mins of branded content divided over 8 web films.
Manuel has been working for BMW for 18 years in diverse functions like CKD strategy, finance and organizational development in Germany, Sweden and China. Since July 2017 he was responsible for steering the BMW Digitalization Program for sales & marketing including setup of the new service provider Lingyue Digital (领悦数字信息技术有限公司).
Manuel has been a startup founder himself, which is why he is personally interested in digital transformation of traditional businesses and a constant collaboration with the startup community.
Bringing motivated people with diverse backgrounds together, developing ideas and realization is why he likes startup mentality and entrepreneurship.
Simon is a geek, an entrepreneur, passionate about the mechanisms of influence, and can’t stay away from news portals. He leads Influence Matters with the vision that only great work will drive the agency’s growth, so he puts clients’ results before anything else at work. His wife and 3 children are the bosses at home.
Simon specializes in creating impactful ways to activate ecosystems of influence to generate awareness in highly targeted circles, with a particular focus on B2B tech, market entry, corporate, brand and product communications.
Simon has experience of 14 years in cross-border PR for Tech Companies, he also founded and runs several organizations including Networking Matters, the China Tech PR Network and La French Tech Beijing Hub
