Startup Grind Cape Town is proud to host Raphael and Mathieu, Co-founders of Mama Money. Mama Money is an innovative, rapidly growing tech company and the world’s first Social Business Money Transfer Operator. They provide a modern, safe and low-cost way for migrants to make international payments. Mama Money is designed to help African migrants, who left their home and their community in search of better opportunities, to contribute better and more directly to their families’ survival and development.
Before founding Mama Money, Raphael, with a Masters in School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, was working for the UN’s World Food Programme in food security camps in Africa while Matt was in business management as he worked for various companies in South Africa. They met each other on a road trip to Mozambique, which they became friends. Through their shared passion of people and business, the social business money transfer operator was created.
The business currently works in over 15 countries, with more than 1 million customers. Mama money went to win the Mondata Summit Africa awards as 2018s Digital & Commerce Innovation award.
