Startup Grind Cape Town is proud to host Alan Knott-Craig Jr, founder of Project Isizwe and chairman of Herotel. Project Isizwe is an NGO rolling out free WiFi in poor communities. Alan founded World of Avatar and later acquired and became CEO of Mxit and to-date he has invested in 21 companies in the tech industry.

Startup Grind Cape Town is proud to host Alan Knott-Craig Jr, founder of Project Isizwe and chairman of Herotel, Ever Africa, and Hapino NPC. In 2010 he founded and became CEO of World of Avatar, an investment house for apps for Africa and later acquired and became CEO of Mxit, Africa’s biggest social network. He left Mxit and World of Avatar and later founded and became the CEO of project Isizwe, a non-profit company managing the deployment of the largest public Free Wi-Fi network in South Africa. He has funded 21 companies in the tech industry.

Alan was named as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2009. Forbes listed him as one of the top 10 young African millionaires to watch. He was also included in “100 Choiseul Africa" a list of top 100 young African business leaders in 2014, 2015 and 2016, nominated as the 2015 ICT Personality of the Year by ITWeb, and nominated by Entrepreneur Magazine as one of the top eleven entrepreneurs changing the African landscape in 2017. Alan has published 7 books including a national bestseller "Don’t Panic."
