Sumarie Greybe is one of very few women leaders in the insurance space. She is co-founder of Naked Insurance, which recently received a R160-million series-A funding round from Naspers. Founded in 2018 by Alex Thomson, Sumarie Greybe and Ernest North, the startup says it uses artificial intelligence to create new insurance processes and experiences for its customers.

Before Naked Insurance, Sumarie headed short-term insurance consulting at her own firm, Quindiem Consulting for over 15 years. In 2011, Quindiem was acquired by EY and Sumarie became a Partner at EY and Head of EY Africa’s Actuarial Services Short Term Insurance Practice. Over the years, Sumarie served as an actuarial advisor to (and on the Board of) many of South Africa’s large insurers. In 2016, she successfully secured funding to start development of Naked, before opening to the public in 2018 and subsequently launching the full car, home and single item insurance offering in 2020.
