Startup Grind Khayelitsha is proud to host Adri Williams and Eunice Nyobole, owners of Khayelitsha Cookie Company (KCC), a company that produces a range of high-quality hand-baked cookies. KCC supplies hotels, retail shops, hospitals, schools and corporates across South Africa and some of their clients include Pick n Pay, Protea Hotels, Spier and Tsogo Sun.
Khayelitsha Cookies started with 4 women in Khayelitsha, and now employs more than 50 women on a full-time basis. It began as a small-scale project in 2004, teaching a group of unskilled and unemployed ladies in Khayelitsha township to bake in order to sustain their livelihood. The organization has faced some tough times since its establishment including a threat of closure in 2013 due to increased losses. Adri Williams left a secure job with a good salary and benefits as head of sales for Ciro Coffee to join KCC inheriting a company that was R2.5 million in debt. With great determination, Adri, Eunice and a dedicated team of ladies rolled up their sleeves and got to work diligently to turn things around.
“Creating opportunity one bite at a time” is their motto and that’s exactly what Khayelitsha Cookie Company does and continues to sustainably restore hope for a lot of ladies.
