About this event

John LaCour is the Founder and Chief Technology Officer of PhishLabs, which provides 24/7 managed security, anti-fraud, and intelligence services that protect against phishing. As CTO, he is responsible for developing the company’s long-term product vision and driving the development needed to achieve it. He is also the company’s technical evangelist, responsible for inspiring others around the long-term vision and speaking with authority on how organizations will protect against phishing in the future.

He is an active contributor in the cyber security community and frequently speaks at industry conferences. John has given talks for the Anti-Phishing Working Group, Underground Economy, Digital Crimes Consortium, RSA Conference, Gartner Security & Risk Management Summit, and many others.

John began his career at US Robotics as a Technical Support Manager in the early 1990s. He moved on to work for Pilot Network Services as a Business Development Engineer before joining NetScreen Technologies where he led the introduction of the NetScreen GPRS firewall and initiated the development of content filtering technology.

After leaving NetScreen, John went on to serve as the Security Services Group Manager at Zone Labs, the Director of Product Management at RedSeal Systems, and the Director of Product Management at MarkMonitor.

In 2008, John founded PhishLabs out of the conviction that there is a better way to protect against phishing attacks. The company quickly gained contracts with several large clients and began delivering services. In 2010, the company moved to Charleston, SC, where it took part in the city’s Digital Corridor incubator program.

Under John’s leadership over the next 6 years, the company established a 24/7 Security Operations Center, launched multiple new services, closed $8.25M in growth funding, acquired more than 125 clients worldwide, and maintained a greater than 95% client renewal rate.

John studied computer science and economics at Louisiana State University and Northwestern University.
