Wayne Duncan is the CEO and Founder of Corner Bakery. He is also a serial Durban entrepreneur who previously owned the Milky Lane, Juicy Lucy, Bread Ahead and Chicken King brands. Corner Bakery is South Africa’s largest bakery franchise with over 420 stores throughout South Africa. This makes the franchise group the fourth biggest retail chain in South Africa in terms of store numbers. Corner Bakery is run under the Retsol Group. Duncan attended UKZN and has a vast amount of experience in retail and franchises. He started Retsol in 2002 with Founder of Debonairs Craig Mckenzie. Under Retsol the co-founders owned the Milky Lane, Juicy Lucy, Bread Ahead and the Chicken King brands. In 2007 Duncan founded Corner Bakery and started of with no stores. It has grown and scaled rapidly from then to 420 stores. The company has currently created jobs for more than 2000 people through its franchisees. Corner Bakery has since ventured beyond South African borders and has 65 stores spread across Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia, DRC, Reunion and Mauritius which will bring the store count to 600. Corner Bakery’s turnover growth has averaged 20 percent year on year.
