About this event

Startup Grind East London invites you to - Risk vs Reward: The AI Question, with speaker Mixo Ngoveni.

Through Geekulcha, Mixo has, for the past 13 years, been at the forefront of empowering young geeks through ICT skills development and training while giving them a taste of what awaits them in the tech world through industry exposure.

He is a tech advocate who views Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a transformative tool for African youth and entrepreneurs. Mixo actively leads workshops and events to demystify AI.

Like other advocates like him, Mixo confirms that AI is here to stay. The question is no longer whether to use AI but how to use it responsibly. AI offers immense potential for efficiency, innovation, and enhanced decision-making by identifying patterns faster than humans.

On the other hand, AI can pose risks regarding data security and can perpetuate biases. Over-reliance on AI risks eroding human expertise, leading to “lazy” thinking. It cannot replace true empathy, compassion or the unique human spark in creative work.

There seems to be consensus that the best approach is a balanced one, sometimes referred to as “slow AI” where technology supports rather than replaces human judgement. AI seems to be more effective when it serves as a tool for “remixing” ideas rather than the final authority on creativity or decision-making.

Whether you are a student, a startup or an established business, join us for this fireside chat and gain insights on how best to utilise AI whilst being mindful of its risks and shortcomings.
