He is a serial entrepreneur with an exit to Disney on his resume, an EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2021 Finalist, and an inventor by trade. He is passionate about connecting the next generation of knowledge workers in developing their collaboration design skills, so they can ideate and solve hard problems together.
Derek Andersen is the Founder & CEO of Startup Grind, a 400,000 person entrepreneurial community with 200 chapters in 85 countries run by more than 1,000 volunteers. Startup Grind's mission is to help every entrepreneur in the world. It's core values are giving before you take, helping others first, and making friends. Derek Andersen spent four years in product management at Electronic Arts working on games like The Godfather, Burnout, The Sims 3, and Mirror’s Edge. He left EA in 2009 to start Vaporware Labs, a product incubator which mostly failed but built products including Commonred which was acquired by Income.com in 2012, and Startup Grind. After running Startup Grind as a side project for 2 years, Derek turned his full attention to scaling it from 3 chapters to 200 chapters today. Regina (Gonzalez) Thompson originally from Miami, Florida, is a first generation American.
She earned her Bachelor’s in Theatre Studies at the University of Central Florida, and her MBA
at Nova Southeastern University. Earlier on in her career, she worked as the Service and
Operations Manager at 24 Hour Fitness and was top three in sales, member retention, and overall
club satisfaction. She realized a passion for mentorship and found herself at Florida Atlantic
University under Innovation and Business Development.
She began managing the FAU Wave program in 2018, an applied research and entrepreneurial
competition for students. Under her management, she increased student engagement, secured a
donor, and expanded student participation in statewide collegiate competitions. As she grew in
her position, she began managing the NSF I-Corps program, a customer discovery-based training
for faculty and student innovators. Regina has also authored, administered, and implemented an
external facing workshop for community entrepreneurs titled the Market Validation Workshop.
Recently, this workshop has been utilized to impact organizational improvement within the Air
Force Technical Assistance Center. Since 2018, Regina has mentored, managed, developed and
instructed entrepreneurial based programs to accelerate and support technologies from faculty,
students, and the community.

Wai Lee is a Global IT Leader in Cloud, Workplace Technology, Security, Infrastructure and Operations. Wai drives transformations with internal and external partners to achieve top results for leading Telecommunications and Financial Services companies based in the US where he spent three decades. He currently serves as the Global Head of Enterprise Service Delivery for Millicom International Cellular here in Miami. Previously, Wai was instrumental in the private and public cloud business transformation programs in TracFone Wireless where he was the SVP of Platform Infrastructure Services.
