Peter founded the startup law firm Ramparts in 2012, following his move to Gibraltar from London to work within the gaming industry. His vision was to found a law firm that provided niche and specialist expertise to clients in the Finance and Gaming sectors. With his extensive experience in online gaming and e-money, Peter saw the law firm as an opportunity to focus on emerging areas of legal and regulatory work within an increasingly tech driven jurisdiction. In November 2018, Fiona Young, a local employment lawyer and mediator who specialises in facilitating positive working relationships, joined the team to assist with developing dynamic and positive working practices within Ramparts and for Ramparts clients. Fiona specialises in both contentious and non-contentious employment law. She represents employers and employees in the Gibraltar Employment Tribunal and is one of the appointed Mediators. Fiona is qualified in Gibraltar, as well as England & Wales, and has over 18 years’ experience of commercial litigation in both jurisdictions. She is recognised in Gibraltar as a skilled negotiator and settlement advisor.

Peter Howitt heads up the firm’s operations in Gibraltar. His key areas of specialism are finance & technology, with a particular focus on TMT, gaming, e-money & payments, blockchain and cryptocurrency, commercial law and cross-border regulatory advice. He is dual-qualified in England & Wales and Gibraltar.
Peter has been involved in finance and technology since 2000 when he started his career at another leading international law firm in London. He is the CEO of the Gibraltar Betting and Gaming Association (GBGA), where he coordinates the industry on a wide range of issues, including regulatory, political and public relations matters.
Peter helped to establish the Gibraltar E-Money Association (GEMA) and has been acting as GEMA’s Secretary since 2012.
Fiona Young specialises in both contentious and non-contentious employment law. She represents employers and employees in the Gibraltar Employment Tribunal and is one of the appointed Mediators for the Gibraltar Employment Tribunal. Fiona is qualified in Gibraltar, as well as England & Wales, and has over 18 years’ experience of commercial litigation in both jurisdictions. She is recognised in Gibraltar as a skilled negotiator and settlement advisor.
Fiona advises in all areas of dispute resolution in the UK and Gibraltar. She has particular emphasis on advising employers and employees on all areas of employment law, including recruitment, redundancy, dismissal, retirement, TUPE transfers, whistleblowing and discrimination.
She always encourages clients to make effective use of ADR strategies, provides in-house support and training on best practice in employment relations, drafts staff policies and handbooks and advises on the implementation of effective appraisal and performance management systems.
Fiona also advises on internal disciplinary and investigation procedures and offers professional coaching and guidance for senior team leaders in effective conflict management in the workplace. Fiona has provided mediator services to banks and gaming companies, as well as representing clients at mediations. Fiona also provides ADR support in other areas of commercial litigation, including on the application and implementation of arbitration and ADR clauses and in settlement negotiation and strategy.
