A panel of entrepreneurs and investors to share their experiences with different funding routes. Is it the great debate? Bootstrapping vs Seeking Investment? Discover which path might be right for you.
Last September our funding event was another sell out, so it's back!
Whether you're just starting out or scaling up, understanding your funding options is crucial. Join us as we discuss the many routes founders can take to finance their ventures, from grants and angel investment to crowdfunding, revenue-based financing and venture capital. Discover which path might be right for you.
This event is designed to help you navigate the funding landscape with confidence. You'll hear from founders and experts who’ve taken different paths, learn what worked (and what didn’t), and gain practical advice to help you choose the right approach for your business.
Scott Black - CEO & Co-Founder of Seluna
Scott holds an MEng in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Glasgow and a PhD in Medical Devices & Healthcare Technology from the University of Strathclyde. Following his doctoral research, he worked closely with hospitals across the UK and uncovered a clear gap in innovation within paediatric healthcare—particularly in sleep and respiratory medicine. Alongside his co-founder and CTO, Yola, Scott founded Seluna, a healthtech startup with the mission to support doctors in diagnosing and managing paediatric sleep disorders. Early collaboration with NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde has enabled Seluna to develop medical software powered by machine learning algorithms that analyse clinical sleep data and provide decision support for faster, more reliable diagnoses. To date, Seluna has secured around £1.2m in dilutive and non-dilutive funding to advance its mission of transforming paediatric healthcare.
Alex Rowe - Founder of Sun & Planet
Alex has spent a decade working in the UK’s startup ecosystem, initially as an early employee inside various high growth tech startups, including gohenry (sold to Acorns) where he helped to raise £8m+. He also previously worked at Growthdeck, a private investor network, and was Head of Investment at Raising Partners, an early stage advisory firm that worked with 200+ startups and contributed to fundraises totalling £65m in 6 years of operations. Alex is a St Andrews graduate, where he produced the single first piece of published academic literature on equity crowdfunding and founded an alumni angel investor network. He currently works as a freelance fundraising advisor to early stage startups across the UK.
Nathalie Cutting - Relationships Director at Barclays UK
After 17 years in the hospitality industry managing hotels and restaurants, Nathalie transitioned into banking nine years ago. Since then, she's progressed from customer service into leadership and for the last 4 years proudly serve as a Relationship Director within the Innovation team at Barclays. She supports high-growth businesses across Scotland and Northern Ireland—those scaling rapidly, raising investment, and disrupting their industries. I'm industry agnostic, driven by a passion for people and growth, and have been recognised with multiple awards, most recently the WISE European Women in Sales Award.
Craig Rothnie - Senior Tax Manager at CT: Accountants Advisors
Craig has over a decade of experience navigating the tax landscape in the UK and has recently joined CT as a Senior Manager leading the Entrepreneurial Taxes Team. While training in a boutique tax firm in Glasgow, Craig gained significant experience in both compliance and advisory services; including exit planning, buying and selling businesses, and restructuring. Craig specialises in tax advice regarding share schemes (including EMI and CSOP) and other equity incentivisation alternatives, providing support with design, tax valuation, and implementation, as well as tax-efficient investments, primarily under the SEIS and EIS Schemes.
