What the f*ck is Web3? With Nick Jones, Zumo Co-Founder & CEO
For many of us, Web3 is a whole new world. From cryptocurrency to decentralisation and back again, we're just as lost as you are. Luckily, Scotland has an incredible growing Web3 community, with emerging and established businesses positively disrupting the market.
Introducing Nick Jones: your guide and guru as we explore Web3 and navigate its positive impact on inequalities and the environment. A veteran of Scotland's startup scene, Nick co-founded Zumo in 2018 to help people and businesses alike buy, sell and spend securely anywhere worldwide. Since then, the crypto startup company has raised a record-breaking £1.6M seed round and saw 100x year-on-year growth in 2021.
Web3 lays the framework to transition to a decentralised and democratised economy, presenting a huge opportunity to level the economic playing field. This new wave of the web is already offering fresh ways for people to work together, transforming how creators monetise their work and introducing new economic models. The idea is, as these moving parts come together, people from all walks of life must have a voice in how this future might look.
This transition will impact us all, regardless of what line of work you're in - so let's work together to bridge the knowledge gap from Web2 to Web3.
As we take a closer look into Web3 and figure out what the f*ck is going on, we'll dive into the Zuhu story regarding:
- 100x year-on-year-growth and a record-breaking £1.6M seed round
- Securing FCA approval as a crypto startup
- Why the future is decentralised and why you should care
- How Web3 can bridge industries, networks and inequalities
- Decarbonising crypto
Join us on February 24th as we demystify Web3 together and tell the Zumo story with Nick Jones!
How to attend
We're excited to be back in person with our friends at CodeBase Edinburgh, and we'll have the usual networking, food and drink that you'd expect from our events.
BUT - we know this is a big topic, and those outside the capital will want to tune in. With that in mind, we've partnered with Project Forge to deliver a high-quality live streaming experience as well as virtual networking before and after our conversation with Nick on Gather Town. This is a funky platform that looks like an '80s arcade game where you move around a room and interact with other guests almost as well as you could in person. When our event begins, we will broadcast it to Gather Town, where you can get involved in a chat window and submit questions via our Slido app.
