GE Appliances had a problem: competitors were beating them to market with products they had chosen to defund. The company was shedding market share, and was failing to innovate quickly. In response, the CTO created an off site facility—FirstBuild. His goal was to unlock the innovations trapped inside the company, unlocking the entrepreneurial tendencies of his employees. GE's FirstBuild team identified and eliminated key obstacles that prevent new ideas from gaining traction. In the process, it reinvented a corporate product development process for innovations, slashing development lead times from years to months with greater certainty upon release.

Matt has spent his career at the Louisville based GE Appliances company in a variety of roles sending him across the country gaining insights on entrepreneurship and ecosystems. When GEA began FirstBuild, he was one of the first to join the group and has been on an corporate entrepreneurial journey ever since.
