She began her entrepreneurial journey in 2013 as a Founder and CEO of Dust Busters – a cleaning company she created in a bid to professionalize domestic cleaning services and economically empower impoverished women in Lesotho where 56% of people live in extreme poverty. Built from zero external funding, Dust Busters is now a profitable and financially sustainable company, which has been able to create employment opportunities for over 20 Basotho women and counting.
Through these efforts, Paballo was selected among the 6 most innovative start-up entrepreneurs to undergo a business acceleration program for young entrepreneurs funded by Vodacom Lesotho where she was also awarded the winner for best pitch for 2017 cohort.Paballo holds a BA Degree in Political Science and Public Administration from National University of Lesotho. She is also a Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumna and USADF grantee. She is currently the incoming Curator at the WEF Global Shapers Maseru Hub.
Through these prestigious affiliations, she has been exposed to and makes significant contributions to entrepreneurship and youth development in Lesotho, including spearheading the annual entrepreneurship expo andTHUD Maseru both aimed at spurring initiative among youth and growing the entrepreneurial ecosystem for sustainable development in Lesotho.
Paballo is a strong believer in the significant role women and youth can play in the socioeconomic growth of their nations and she is committed to contributing to the development and growth of institutions that aim to empower women and youth economically. Her dream is to see a Lesotho (an Africa) where opportunities are free for all, and personal effort is what determines a person’s fate.
Maphano Mohapi, an award winning entrepreneur with four years of experience in the beauty and rehabilitation industry. She is the founder and managing director of Phano Ea Bophelo Beauty and Rehab Spa, that not only provides traditional spa services but also includes a small cafe. Maphano is a hands-on entrepreneur, working as a nail technician, makeup artist, administrator, and supervisor for her business.
Following a car accident that left her paralyzed and wheelchair bound twelve years ago, Maphano decided to use her passion for beauty to her advantage and started a business that she would not only enjoy but that would also make others feel good about themselves. Maphano had to adapt to life in a wheelchair and her status as a disabled person. This was not always easy as she dealt with physical challenges, insecurity, failure, anxiety, and lack of self-confidence.
Twelve years on, she has grown into a driven young woman who inspires others with her personal story. She works to fight against discrimination and is a voice and inspiration for the disabled community. After her accident, she pursued a Bachelor’s degree in social work at the National University of Lesotho, where she became an advocate for the disabled.
Her hope is that the country’s disability laws will advance to ensure all people living with disabilities can exercise their basic human rights. Maphano is also an Alumni of Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders' Business & Entrepreneurship training at the University of Iowa
