Leading While Black: Building Bridges to DEI

October is Black Leaders Month at Startup Grind! We are excited to highlight the contribution of black leadership in all facets of society across our global chapters. This month, we discuss how black leadership helps companies build those necessary bridges to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Leading while black is a euphemism for the challenges that come with being a leader intersecting with being black. 2020 has become the siren call for justice, a reawakening of the 60's civil rights movement. That call for justice has extended to the demand that equity is realized not only in the criminal legal system but in the corporate system as well. Economic inequity is a real thing. In order for that inequity to be decreased or eliminated, black leadership is key.

Meet Dorian Spears

Dorian Spears firmly believes that the solutions and brilliance to solve community challenges exist within residents who have been pushed to the margins in communities affected by poverty, institutional racism, and disinvestment. She has a work history as a nonprofit administration and government professional with an expansive range of program development, strategic planning, and implementation skills. Dorian has a passion for serving the community and with a culturally responsive lens, she employs current knowledge and acumen while making a meaningful impact on organizational mission, vision, and values.

Every month we invite you to better understand and to embrace Startup Grind’s Values:
