TJ was the Board President for Agapé Christian Counseling Center and sat on the Memphis Urban League Young Professionals board as the Historian/Social Media Manager. Currently, she is on the Communications Committee of the MidSouth Food Bank and handles marketing for Covenant Church Memphis. Also, TJ is a founding member of the Girls Will Be Girls Outreach Women’s Ministry, the winner of the 2015 Tri-State Defender’s “Best in Black” award for “Best Outreach Ministry. TJ co-founded the C.L.I.M.B. Initiative, which is a job readiness/workforce development program for the 38109 & 38116 area codes.
TJ is originally from Memphis and graduated from Tennessee State University with a Bachelors Degree in Mass Communication with a concentration in Print Journalism. She was an awarding-winning sports editor of TSU’s student newspaper. TJ was a sports writer for the now-defunct Breakdown Magazine and went on to work as a Media Rep for Nashville State Community College‘s Public Relations Office.
TJ believes faith, discipline, & lots of support is the motivation needed to follow your dreams. She lives by this motto that she penned, “Accept the word “no” like the button of an alarm clock, don’t worry, someone will eventually wake up.”
