About this event

Welcome to Startup Grind Nairobi Week 2026: The Deep Tech Frontier.

The Future Isn’t Being Imported. It’s Being Built Here.

For too long, the narrative around African innovation has been about leapfrogging with "lite" versions of Western apps. But Nairobi is no longer just the "Silicon Savannah", it is rapidly evolving into a global testbed for frontier technologies. The era of the simple "Uber for X" is over. The next wave of valuation, the next generation of unicorns, will be driven by Deep Tech: proprietary, hard-to-replicate science and engineering that solves systemic problems at scale.

From August 24th to 28th, 2026, we are convening the architects of this new reality. Startup Grind Nairobi Week is not a passive conference; it is a five-day, high-signal immersion into the stack of the future. We are moving beyond generic tech talks to tackle the infrastructure, the investment, and the policy that will define the next decade.

Why Attend? Why Now?

A massive gap exists in the ecosystem. Deep Tech founders, those building in AI, Blockchain, and Hardware, struggle to communicate their complex value propositions to generalist investors. Meanwhile, regulators are racing to keep pace with the rapid adoption of Crypto and AI, and users are desperate for solutions that actually understand their context.

We are building the bridge. Our mission is threefold:

  • Convergence: To bring together the builders, the funders, and the regulators in rooms designed for genuine technical depth.
  • Deal Flow: To connect founders with proprietary Intellectual Property to the institutional capital ready to back them.
  • Talent Showcase: To prove, definitively, that Nairobi has the engineers to build the future, not just localize it.

The Five-Day Journey: "Building the Uncoyable"

Our week is structured to take you up the value chain. Each day is dedicated to a critical layer of the Deep Tech stack.

Day 1: Monday, August 10th - "DEV(SEC)OPS & INFRASTRUCTURE" (The Theme of Reliability)

You cannot scale AI or Crypto on shaky ground. We kick off the week by digging into the bedrock of innovation: Cloud architecture, cybersecurity, and open-source sustainability. Join our main-stage discussion, "The Infrastructure Imperative," where we explore how African startups can own the stack, secure user data, and move away from black-box third-party solutions. If you are a CTO, a Lead Developer, or a founder who cares about scalability, this is your day.

Day 2: Tuesday, August 11th - "DECENTRALIZED NAIROBI" (The Theme of Sovereignty)

We dive into the paradigm shift from trusted intermediaries to trustless protocols. The main-stage debate, "The Post-Mpesa Era: Is Crypto the Rails for Continental Trade?" will tackle the future of stablecoins, asset tokenization, and how blockchain can solve the FX liquidity crisis hindering intra-African trade. We’ll also feature legal clinics on navigating the VASP Act, making this a must-attend for anyone in Web3.

Day 3: Wednesday, August 12th - "FINARCHITECTS" (The Theme of Recombination)

This is not just Fintech; this is the architecture of financial infrastructure. While consumer lending is saturated, the supply chain is broken. Our main-stage topic, "Beyond Lending: The Next Trillion Dollars in B2B Fintech," will showcase how deep tech startups are using data to finance invoices, inventory, and logistics in real-time. If you are building in Embedded Finance, Open Banking, or RegTech, this is where you need to be.

Day 4: Thursday, August 13th - "HARD TECH & THE PHYSICAL WORLD" (The Theme of Tangibility)

Software has eaten the world; now hardware is eating software. We explore the pivot from asset-light to asset-enabled models with "Bridging the Digital-Physical Divide: Why Hardware is Back." From drone logistics and smart agriculture sensors to clean energy tech and EV batteries, we are showcasing the innovations that are changing the physical landscape of Africa.

Day 5: Friday, August 14th - "COGNITIVE AFRICA" (The Theme of Intelligence)

We end the week with the brain of the future. "AI Natives: Will the First Fully AI-run Company be Built in Nairobi?" moves beyond simple "ChatGPT wrappers" to explore how local engineers are fine-tuning models on Swahili and vernacular data, and what a company looks like when the C-suite uses autonomous AI agents. This is the grand finale for founders, data scientists, and visionaries.

Who Is This For?

  1. Founders & C-Suites: If you are building a scalable Deep Tech startup and looking for Series A/B funding, this is your tribe.
  2. Engineering Leads: CTOs, VPs of Engineering, and Lead Developers who want to stay ahead of the curve.
  3. Institutional Capital: VC funds, Family Offices, and Angel Investors scouting for proprietary IP.
  4. Policy Makers: From the Central Bank to the ICT Authority, we are facilitating dialogue between the builders and the regulators.
  5. Early Adopters & Users: Be the first to experience, test, and shape the next generation of African technology.

More Than Just an Event

This is a five-day "Hub & Spoke" experience. Mornings feature high-signal keynotes and main-stage debates on the "Hub." Afternoons explode into "Spokes"—partner-led workshops, pitch sessions, and office hours with leading VCs. All while the exhibition floor buzzes with the most exciting startups in the ecosystem.

Don't just watch the future from the sidelines. Be in the room where it is built.

Secure your ticket now and join the movement that is putting African Deep Tech on the global map.
