Richard was born in Seoul, South Korea and spent his teenage years in Hong Kong, where he considers his second home. Upon completing high school, Richard studied biomedical engineering at Johns Hopkins University, and went on to do his Masters at Cornell. He returned to Korea in 2007 and worked at R&D division of SK Chemicals, a Korean pharmaceutical company. He co-founded Spoqa Inc. in 2011 to improve the way local merchants manage their customers, and since then has raised more than 10 million dollars in funding to date. Spoqa operates Dodo, world’s simplest tablet-based loyalty solution for brick and mortar stores. Currently used by 15 million users across 10,000 partner merchants ranging from coffee shops to hotels, Dodo is Korea’s fastest growing tablet-based loyalty platform.
