In his role as Director at OMERS Ventures, George Babu is responsible for contributing to the identification and execution of investment opportunities in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) sectors, with a particular interest in human-computer interfaces, hardware platforms, mobile and enterprise software.
An accomplished entrepreneur, George’s past experience includes senior roles at successful startups and established technology companies. Prior to joining OMERS Ventures, George acted as general counsel and head of U.S. operations for Stockholm-based social gifting startup Wrapp, where he negotiated key partnerships and built out the U.S. team in New York and San Francisco. As co-founder and head of finance and operations at social performance platform Rypple, George gained significant experience raising capital, recruiting for key positions, and executing the company’s sale to Salesforce.com in 2011. Earlier in his career George spent nine years at Research In Motion on the Intellectual Property and Radio Frequency Research and Development teams.
George currently serves on the board of AppHero as an Independent Director and the Advisory Board of the Faculty of Engineering Science at the University of Toronto. George holds a B.A.Sc. (Engineering Science, Electrical), J.D. and M.B.A. from The University of Toronto. He is a Registered Patent Agent in Canada and holder of two patents.
