Ten years ago, shared mobility felt like the Wild West. Tech startups flooded global streets with dockless bikes practically overnight, leading to massive pile-ups in China and sudden, sweeping bans across European capitals. The strategy back then was simple: drop thousands of bikes on sidewalks, scale at all costs, and ask for forgiveness later.
But the industry has had to grow up fast. The era of endless venture capital funding is over, cities are enforcing strict rules, and the initial hype has turned into a serious conversation about survival. We’re moving away from chaotic pay-per-minute rentals and toward models that actually make sense for how people live.
We’re getting together to look at what happened, what went wrong, and where we go from here. We'll be talking about:
The megacity blind spot: Why almost every mobility startup is fixated on massive capitals, completely ignoring the unique needs—and massive potential—of mid-sized and smaller cities.
The investor reality check: How the money behind these startups shifted from demanding hyper-growth to forcing actual, sustainable profitability.
The next roadmap: What the future looks like now that the chaos has quieted down, from the rise of heavy-duty cargo logistics to the shift toward monthly bike subscriptions.
To get a realistic look at the industry, we’re hosting a casual chat with two founders who have built mobility startups from the ground up:
Scott, who went from managing shared scooters in the fast-paced environment of New York to launching a subscription bike company right here in Valencia.
Keivan, who built and ran a cargo bike startup in Berlin, bringing first-hand insight into European urban logistics and operations.
